I honestly don't think Vince cares if faces get booed or heels get cheered. As long as you get a reaction, you're in the money. I think sometimes the fan's reaction to a wrestler actually sets his path within the company. Take Santino Marella for instance, the Milan Miracle, he was set to be an uber babyface with crowd appeal, but the fans had more fun booing him, and right now he's currently one of the biggest heels within the WWE.
I'm sure Cena hasn't lost a dime over the mixed reaction he receives, and if it weren't for the Rock getting booed initially, he may have never become the most electrifying wrestler in sports entertainment, because the man never got over until his first heel turn.
As I stated earlier, you're probably in worse shape when Vince doesn't get a reaction out of you at all. Look at Kevin Fertig (aka Mordecai, aka the many faces of Kevin Thorn) the kid has been in and out of development for nearly half a decade now. Why? Because the fans just don't care about him, and I'm sure OVW didn't pay as much as the WWE does, and I'm sure it's true to this day that the new developmental independent FCW doesn't pay as much either.
Plain and simple, the only time you lose money within the wrestling world is when you start to cost money. If you're not marketable, if you're not putting butts in seats, and if the fans barely acknowledge your existence, then you're not making anything.
