Was Reading Jerry lawler has been the American Wrestling Association Southern Heavyweight Champion on 43 occasion. Wouldnt that be boring watching him lose and win it 43 times? Also cant be that great if u have to lose 42 matches lol

yeah.. he's still winning championships today you know. and he has the record for the most championship wins with 129 and counting.

Thats all they had back in the day, he was the face of the organization. They would win and lose the title almost every week or two back then.

I think it was just a case of AWA promoter Verne Gagne using his most well-known stars in his promotion like Jerry Lawler, Tommy Rich, Paul Orndorff and a young Hulk Hogan as a way to get noticed and sell more tickets for the shows.Back then AWA was in competition with NWA, it's territories and Jim Crockett Promotions, so Gagne was focused on putting on his best stars in the best matches possible.
