My son is in the same position (applying for uni etc) and his head of 6th form works closely with the admissions team of two top uni's .....
Apparently, according to her, you should also make sure that whatever courses you apply for are mentioned in your mission statement.
For example, if you are thinking of applying for Pharmacology and also History then you should put something like having a passion for medicine and especially the history of it. Do you get my drift? Work it in so that you could be judged as being passionate about both subjects
She said that if you apply for too many different courses then they will question your commitment to any of them and possibly reject you because they have people who are dead set on just that particular course.
Whatever it is you decide to do and wherever you decide to go then really good luck.
Also as a side note. We were told not to forget the smaller uni's as some of them will give you a bursary if you are from more than 40 miles away or if you excel at something and all sorts of weird and wonderful things so have a really good look at all the uni's own websites and especially the finance side of them all.
After all, a degree is a degree no matter where you study for it and the more 'prestigious' uni's like Bath are actually no better than somewhere like Milton Keynes once you've got the qualification. :~)
