Default Is going to University my only real option of achieving what I want in life?

What I want in life is to be fairly well of, Own my own home, have a nice car, have a holiday once a year, however at the min that is not happening, I have none of the above. I left school with no qualifications because I had a dream of being my own boss so thought I wouldn't need any grades, however at 28, I have floated from dead end job to dead end job on min wage. I am just not gifted or motivated enough to start my own business and I have tried repairing PC's, Installing Satellite TV, I couldn't make them work.

Would having a degree give me what I want in life mentioned above, because where my life is at this min I am angry and frustrated. I was thinking perhaps an Open Uni degree because I would get it paid for due to my low wage but instead of taking 3 years as normal it takes 6 with the Open Uni.

Any advice very much appreciated?

Yeah your definietely need to get an education. If you are mechanically and technically inclined, your could go to a technical institute. If you are mre academically inclined you could attend a university. You can chose an option which allows you the versatility to study and work at the same time

University or a trade school should get you there. However, the most important factor is what you decide to study. You should narrow down what type of work you would like to do and then major in that. There are several jobs that should lead you to the middle class lifestyle you desire.

I would say that your problems don't arise from your lack of qualifications, but your lack of enthusiasm.
If you've tried repairing PCs & installing Sat TV, ask yourself why it didn't work - there are obviously others that do these things self employed & make a good living. What are they doing that you're not?
You say you're not motivated - well, that's down to you, no - one else can motivate you to make yourself money. It may be that you're more suited to being an employee.
A degree is worthless - most people now realise that academic qualifications are now far easier than they wore, and as a consequence, they're pretty much worthless to a potential employer & certainly worthless to you as a self employed person.
You just need to find something, as an employee or as a self employed person, that 'excites' you enough to stick at it & make money. Brains, qualifications, etc, don't come into it. Ask Alan Sugar or Richard Branson.

28 is a good age to go back, have a think about what you might like to do

I'd suggest accounting but make sure you get a 4.0 GPA or if you have a passion for something, maybe a technology associates degree

or a trade cert

University is either a gateway to opportunity, or it is a con where they take you money and give you nothing in return but debt.
