In small rural communities. I applied several years ago to such a community in Arizona. It's economy was based on cotton production. There was a REQUIRED course for this. I think it was called Agricultural Studies (or something like that) It focused on proper planting methods, how to drive the machine that chops the cotton (combine I believe it is called)
Like I said, this was some years ago, but since this was the bread and butter of this community, they required this class to graduate.
In this age of technology, fewer and fewer young people are choosing farming as a career. Plus school budgets the way they are, cannot afford such classes anymore. They are usually the first on the chopping block.
