Default Why do politicians supply details of their forthcoming speeches to journalists...?

There's no need to listen to Gordon Brown this afternoon as Sky & BBC News have already told us the tenor of what he is going to say.

An example of watered down politics. They would be challenged in the House of Commons which is the strength of the British political system. A strong opposition is very important so as to call the Government to account. No wonder there is so much apathy.

Why do you think they do the speeches in the first place? Mass coverage of their opinions in the media is infinately more important than 6000 people in Brighton, or the drama of the event.

It is like a trailer to a movie, give people an idea of what will be said.
