Default why don't politicians ever answer a straight question?

Ben Shepherd asked Alistair Darling on Breakfast TV this morning, if Labour were going to put up taxes, to pay for the debacle of their policies and he did everything but answer the question, fudged, said a load of waffle, and by and large completely ignored the question, even when it was put to him again. Surely in this time of great difficult we should be told if our tax is going up again, and if so how much.
according to the news this morning, this is indeed what we have to look forward to, higher taxes to pay for their consistent failures.
cool hal

its just he didn't answer the question at all, not like well it could go up later next year, and just avoided all mention of tax. I mean these people want us to trust them to manage the country and our pay packets, so why not say, perhaps.

They don't want to make promises they can't keep, and be quoted on the newspapers and the radio for exactly what they said

With what has happened last week with banks being bailed out, merging going bankrupt etc. I doubt that any politician can say with any certainty what is going to happen to taxes. This is uncharted territory for everyone. Nobody is completly sure where we are in this and what will happen over the next few months or so so how on earth do you expect him today to be able to say how much tax is going up in 2011. If he did and was wrong it would be used against him later. What he did say was thay at the moment it would be wrong to remove cash from the economy.

they are all terrified that what they say might cost them ONE vote. Or a lot of votes.

so they waffle, hoping that what they say and don't say won't offend anyone.

Which means they rarely say the truth about anything.

Politicians all have to be competent - unfortunately it is in the ability to lie through their back teeth - mind you some of them have been lying that long I think they believe the are telling the truth - witness Tony Bliar.

They just want to sound like they're right all the time. But to me, it sometimes appears dishonest when they seem to have an "answer" for everything.
