Default Why do Americans enjoy their Politics, and we Brits seem to loathe them?

I wonder if it is because Americans have a patriotic love of their country, and we are taught by the politicians that patriotism is wrong

Americans practise "stadium" politics, in that they love big conventions and big characters. In the UK, we like to have a more reserved view of politics.

I can only speak for myself, but frankly I hate politics. Watergate (the Nixon scandal) happened when I was about 12 years old. Between that time and the end of the Clinton administration I was blissfully ignorant of federal politics. I just assumed that all politicians were crooked, but as long as I couldn't see any direct negative impact from Washington D.C. on my life I was content to party and let the politicians make their dirty little deals. G.W. Bush woke me up with the stolen election of 2000. Here was a guy operating on a level of fascism that was new and personally alarming. Since then I've become much more active politically, not out of an interest in politics but out of fear for the future of the U.S. and it's influence on the rest of the world. http://oldamericancentury.org/14pts.htm

For us, it's like watching Manchester United playing Chelsea. It's a big game that we can take part in. However, we get to pick the winner.

I think because our Representatives keep getting caught with their fingers in the till. Also all MP,s from all parties only care about the wealthy.
Theirs nothing wrong with the country its the rich and the royals that have lost touch.

Yeah that's it I think....I remember Tony Blair, after years in office in his final speech, mumbling something embarrassed about Britain being a great country. Bit like Hugh Grant when he was trying to say I love you.
