Default Fellow Brits: What do you think would happen if one of our main politicians

'came out' as a creationist? Inspired by this article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7613403.stm
Hi Brian...where have you been....?
Raptor - only a fifth believe in creationism though...i'd say it would be near 50 percent in the USA
oh wait actually it says that in the article...tum te tum...so 20% compared to 47%.....major difference!

Raptor - maybe they chose 'don't know'...we Brits do like to keep our options open....

They would have a picture of them in The Sun (newspaper, circulation over 5 million) with a chimpanzees face, riding a dinosaur and the headline reading something like Moronic halfwits want to indoctrinate our kids, or something like that, but probably ruder and more funny.

To quote Tony Blair people would just think he was a nutter. British politicians don't do religion.

I think they would be swiftly removed. In this country Politicians are generally required to have a brain.

"A 2006 survey for the BBC found that more than a fifth of those polled were convinced by the creationist argument. Less than half - 48% - chose evolution. "

Is it wrong for me to be giddily happy and just a bit smug about this article? Especially since Americans get painted so broadly as a bunch of yokles by you Europeans? Wow, idiots exist EVERYWHERE in the world. Fancy that.

<edit> Now you're playing with numbers. It actually says 47% believe in Creationism in the States. However, since it says only 1/5 of those in the UK believe in Creationism, but apparently 52% DID NOT chose evolution, I can only shudder at whatever insane hypothesis the other 32% believe in. So there. Nya, nya, nya. I win :P

Don't get me wrong, I think that this is a horrifying revelation. For as much sh*t as we take from the Brits, I always at least assumed you were immune from the kind of vapid nonsense that plagues the States as far as religion goes. Now I see . . . maybe not so much. I'm just saying, maybe you folks should consider this before you start flinging insults our way. Not YOU personally, but I sure do like having a bit of ammo against the anti-American crowd from England that likes to scream "Stupid American!" at the drop of a hat.

Thank you SO much for bringing this to my attention. I feel all warm and fuzzy inside :P

<edit> Is that your new pet name for me? If it is, then yeah, but only you get to call me that

Long time no see English ...

I'm not a fellow Brit, as you well know, but it chills me to the spine when I hear anyone in a position of power stating this view in an effort to influence others.

Very sad and narrow minded ...

EDIT- hiding ...trying to find ways of stalking you from across the pond ! ... you know ... the usual ... hehe ;-)

Email me when you get a sec and catch up lady !

Well, Tony Blair was half way there, with his support for 'Faith' schools, allowing a Faith to sponsor an Academy, and saying that God told him to invade Iraq.

I personally would have no trust in a person who can believe such counter-factual myths, however, I have no trust in politicians generally!

I think such beliefs, whilst not automatically baring someone from office, could and should be legitimately used against them by opponents arguing their unsuitability.

Thankfully, the UK is still too secular that having a religious politician is not really that big a concern.

If that religious leader made changes because of their religion on the other hand...I think it would cause major upset across the country.

Blessings and Toodles

What: Do you mean like Tony (Alfred E Neuman) Blare?

There are morons everywhere.

I think that creationists should be refused all medical treatments that are the product of our understanding of evolution, on the grounds that they are counter to their christian beliefs, and therefore Satanic.
