Default Why do gay politicians hide their sexuality ?

when their are many of the gay population discriminated against, and many young gay men under the age of twenty one commit suicide.
Surely a politicians job is to strive for justice, and if they are gay wouldnt they be in a great position to do something about changing homophobia.
If they are too concerned about their precious careers wouldnt we be better of without thgat kind of selfishness, cowardice, and uncaring attitudes.
to militantly hide away from the truth is a form of evil.

You are aware that for a politician to make a difference, he has to get into office, correct? This nation highly frowns upon anything that does not follow the Bible to the teeth. If a politician is gay, non-christian, or anything else considered taboo, people simply will not vote for them. The religious undercurrent in this nation is a strong determinant for elections, and if you don't please the people, you can't get in office. So, until being gay becomes thoroughly embedded in society, it is necessary for politicians to hide their homosexuality, simply so they can get into office to make a difference. It's not considered selfishness and cowardice if you can't get anywhere with the flat out truth; you have to embellish and coat over some aspects so that you can get to where you need to be, nothing can be done for people if you're sitting to the side saying "I'm a gay politician" and no one is voting for you. To make a difference, a politician has only his precious career, so you can't call for them to show everything if it puts that career on the line.

It's nobody else's business what their sexuality is. It doesn't affect their capability to do their job.

People, politicians or not, may choose not to disclose their sexuality to everybody for fear of discrimination. It is likely that they would have already faced discrimination in their lives. It's nobody's right to know every detail of a politician's private life.

It's up to each individual who they disclose their sex life/sexual preference to.

It's wrong to criticise people without knowing them and the reasons behind their choices.

lmao
do you honestly think tat those politicians would even be elected in the first place?????
no. they wouldnt be elected.
if i had a job like that i wouldnt tell anyone that i was gay.
its not like if there was a gay senator homophobia would magicaly go away and we'd all live happily ever after. you cant change homophobes unless you start from the beggining. (kids with homophobic parents)
all that being gay would do is hurt your career

Because it means that they are different, and people won't vote for their party.

There are a lot of people that don't discuss their sexual orientation with the general public so why should a politician be any different? It's their choice to be private about that if they want.

because the sad truth is that no one will be voting for a gay politician, certainly get no money etc. but most important beacause no one yet has gotten the cojones to stand up and say they are gay and running for politics. if such person were to come up I'm pretty sure gay people would back that person 100%

i can think of only two out politicians Rep Barney Frank ( D Cal) and Rep Tammy Baldwin ( D Wis) notice how they're both Democrats. Now lets consider how many Republicans have been caught with their pants down both literally and figuratively and have been run out of the party. Gay politicians hide their sexuality because they want to get elected, and unless you're from very liberal districts ( San Francisco and Madison in the two instances I mentioned) you've got roughly the chance of a snowball in hell of being elected

Karma is gonna get you. How would you handle it if you were gay? Nobody likes to be ridiculed, besides that, a person's sexuality is nobody else's business, unless the person wants it to be known.

There is so much hatred toward the gay population in this country. I don't blame them for not wanting to broadcast it.

The ones we should be upset about are the religious leaders that publicly speak out against homosexuality, then are caught doing it themselves.
