Default Why havent we witnessed a gay politician stand up for gay people and make

some positive changes.? I am more than aware of the stigma attached to homosexuality, and the challenges one may find in being outwardly gay.
I am also aware of the fear, and shame.
many npoliticians could be publicly open about their sexuality, and show the public a positive role model, etc etc etc.
I am shocked that balistair darling, edward heath, and a host of others who dont even need to be open about their sexuality because its quite clear sometimes who is gay, and not gay.
I am totally confused about the cowardice shown by gay politicians being secretive.
please dont give me any rationals about being open and out would be detrimental to their careers.
please dont justify this.
gay politicians are as sick as their secrets.
please dont come off of your own stuff with this.please try to be uncluttered in your answers.
I feel for the amount of gay people who have suffered as a result of the sick gay politician who has militantly refused to be open and proud.
pleases dont label the citizens of this country as all being homophobic.

Because some people are ashamed to admit that they are gay.

Some politicians have come out as gay but it is entirely up to them. They are just people doing a job of their choice. It isn't our business what their sexuality is. There is legislation to protect gay people and they are now allowed to have civil ceremonies, what else is it that you think is needed?

Where the hell do you live? Because where I live there's no stigma to being gay at all and it's not a challenge. If you live in the same place as me, then you have a persecution complex and need to get over yourself.

I don't know if you're talking about the US exclusively, but there is some gay politicians around the world. For example the mayor of Berlin is gay .

Picture that $hit happening.
Politicians have spent too much money to get the education required to (properly) run their position. Their not going to risk their prestigious careers for a sexual preferance stance-its not worth it to them.
Notice how when a politician is outed they usually resign, but if they get caught with drugs or a prostitute they seem to recoop and make an example out of themselves.

You are obviously not old enough to remember how Jeremy Thorpe the then leader of the Liberal party was publicly crucified.
