That is one of the most puzzling things in UK journalism. It seems that news editors are enamored with the US election scene even though most readers/listers/viewers are not. It could be that it's an opportunity for many journalists to have a jolly on expenses. How does one get through to them that we are not that interested. Yes, tell us when they finally have the result, but we don't want a blow-by-blow account or analyses done to death by this or that pundit. I guess the only way is not to buy any newpapers during this period and to keep switching off when anything to do with that d*** election is broadcast.
