Default government and politics at AS level, what to do? :(?

i've taken welsh, english literature, philosophy and government and politics at AS level, I then want to go on to university and do welsh and journalism.

however, I took politics because I was really interested in knowing more about it, its a topic i've never studied and known much about, and i wanted the challenge of something brand new.

however, the politcs class is full of people who already have an AMZING base knowledge, a boy i know is probably one of the most informed people in poltics and he sat there in shocked silence because he felt so stupid in comparison.

both me and my friend are in the same position, one of our parents has adviced to stick at it, accept the challenge, the other has said seriously, get out of there while you can because you'll just loose interest and stop bothering to go.

im really unsure of what to do, the tutor has just assumed everyone already knows the simple workings of the government and the election system and each party, so hes starting a lot higher up. everyone gets into really intense debates about topics i know nothing about, and when asked my opionion i had no answer.

i've only had two lessons, do i stick at it? or change to something else?

thanks

You are choosing it to learn not because you already know lots about it. I did it at A level also, it was easy but you must master the exam technique. In my second year nearly all of the class new nothing about politics they didnt watch the news or follow the paper. It was really ridiculous. At the end of it the two most incompetent girls in the class walked away with top grades. Just watch the news and keep up - you can do it

Speak to your tutor after the lesson and explain to him/her how you feel. Just explain that you don't know as much as the others about politics and you feel as if you're falling behind. They're not going to tell you off! They'll help you. It's only two lessons in so the sooner you tell them the better.
I know how you feel. I've started French & German AS-Level and there's the same boy in both classes who speaks fluent french and german. He just makes us all look really thick. He's really snotty too. It just makes you feel like an idiot really.

De ja vu I felt exactly the same last year I was totally clueless and everyone was having fierce debates around me. At that point I thought drop it but I didn't and you what thank god I didn't. Those smartie pants who show off their knowledge of politics got B's or D's at AS but I who struggled managed to get an A.I think it was because i did not know as much at the beginning and i took it in more, the arrogant people ignored our teachers and had 'political'debates.

And that boy who u think knows so much about politics probably has just soaked it up. U starting fresh couldmake u take it in better and more opened minded making u analysis better. But u do is up 2 u! Good luck!!

You should talk to your tutor, tell him that this is your first time studying this kind of subject. He will understand and he may even offer you extra classes so that you can catch up. Try it for another week and if still, you don't like it, see if you can change your subject. You should be allowed to do that. But if you do like it but feel intimidated, don't let that stop you. Work with the boy, help each other out.

you should give it a go first, it always takes people a while to get accustomed to a new subject, and it doesn't help when people are already well informed on it

it depends, wether your up for the challenge, if you stick, its gonna mean a lot of revising, but you'll feel proud o fyourself

give it another week at least though=)
