Politicians & Christian Belief.?

It seems to an outsider (British) that belief in the Christian faith is a sine qua non of being elected / appointed to high office in the US. Do any US contributors know of any current members of congress, state governors or justices of the Supreme Court who are practising members of other faiths or avowed atheists?

Its not the christian faith that matters to US voters - it's the moral background that the christian faith encompasses.

For example; I don't base my belieif that abortion is wrong on my faith, but rather on the moral belief that taking a life is wrong.

No, but I find it despicable that they promise religious people that they will enforce there religion on everyone just to get a vote when Religion and Government are suppose to be kept separate that way people can find religion themselves if it doesn’t come from the heart and is instead forced on people then not only does it mean nothing but it also means that we are no better then the radical Muslim terrorists we claim to be fighting. Fighting them not only because of there violence and the fear they spread but also because they subvert the Muslim faith and give all religion a bad name. I really wish people would stop voting for the wrong leaders based on promises that go against what America stands for. And as a American I would like to apologize to the world our behavior has been inexcusable over the last 8 years. I can only hope that given time we can redeem ourselves in your eyes.

Those who publicly reject God are suspect because they are declaring that there are no rules for them that do not feel like choosing. How do I hold someone accountable to rules that they invent for themselves and are free to change at will?

Of course, just because one professes to be Christian doesn't mean that he or she actually is.
