Sorry, I don't know. Election day is November 4th this year, I think. Hopefully there will be a clear cut winner, so it won't drag on for another month afterwards like it did in 2000.
Here's a quick overview of American presidential elections:
Starting around January or February of the election year is primary season. This is when each state picks their favorites from each party's field of candidates. These primaries continue until June. Usually the candidates drop out long before then end of the primaries, but this year the Democrats had a very close primary race between Obama and Hillary Clinton.
After the primaries, each party has a national convention where the candidate is officially nominated. The Democrats just had their convention; the Republicans will have theirs next week, unless it is postponed due to hurricane.
After the conventions, there is about 2 more months of national campaigning until the election.
This election has been especially drawn out since most candidates declared they would enter the race a full year before the primaries started. I think that is because no one from George Bush's administration decided to run for president this year. Usually the vice president will run for president when the president has already served his two term limit. Since most candidates declared for the race so early, they have been campaigning for almost 2 full years instead of the usual 1. Trust me; most Americans are sick of this bloody mess, too.
