You need to put into practise what you have learnt, I started by uploading sites with free hosting and altering scripts from there and I was a complete novice and I'm no expert now but I can do it to a level for what I need it for and I'm enjoying it, and will learn more as I go !

PHP is useless without advanced knowledge of HTML/XHTML.

I suggest you learn HTML/XHTML to an advanced level, then continue with PHP programming.

Once you have learnt it, you'll understand/be creating advanced PHP web pages in no time at all,

Best learning in PHP is simply getting your hands dirty. Start small with a simple little program. Use www.w3schools.com, www.php.net, www.webmonkey.com and you can find almost anything you are having trouble with. But you just need a focus, and to slowly work at it solving one issue at a time until it finally comes together and then move on to your next project and eventually you will get faster and better.

Doing it that was is a good way to learn the basic syntax, but to really understand how to make web programs etc. I would recommend downloading a script of the internet and breaking it down and learning exactly what each part does, then go away and try to recreate the script.

For example, Google search PHP login script, download and disect the code!
