Nokia N73. What can't the N73 do if i put it on stand by mode?

I've put the mobile on 'stand by' but i'm still able to call and message people. I'm not sure how putting the phone on stand by afttects it's performance?? I've noticed that the battery life has improve very slightly...

i dont think it changes anything. just that there ar 3 or 4 icons on the desktop. contacts, messaging, calender, gallery and image print.
