Default Important diet news for vegetarians and those who can't eat Pork...?

As lovely as it is, did you know that Flora Extra Light contains pork gelatin. It's one of the first ingredients. My fiance and I are vegetarian and feel a bit sick at the fact that we've been eating it for a while without realising. Non of the other Flora spreads have it, just the Extra Light one, so we just didn't expect it!
It's not marked clearly on the box, just a small reference in the ingredients. I check EVERYTHING now.

Yes I did know.

Unless I see the "V" on the package, I don't risk it.

TBH a lot of vegis don't know about what E numbers they can and can't eat. Just because there is nothing obvious in the ingredients that doesn't mean it's suitable.

Be careful out there

I am a lifelong carnivore but this sort of thing really p*sses me off, too. Why use it in just one product in the range? If they can use something else in all the others, why not in this one?

That's horrible! They should at least somehow advertise it... I mean, otherwise it's a cruel trick.

I'll start checking the butter, spreads, etc that we have here; I hope none of them have that stuff in there!

Well, that just goes to show that one of my comments i often use on here is correct.

If we don't check the ingredients, we are playing guesswork with our morals.

many dairy products contain pork geletin, including many yogurts.

Vegetarians should check all ingredients, if we don't, we are guessing.

and the common example i use is tinned vegetables..... Sainsbury's tinned carrots are washed in a solution containing beef fat, apparently it improves the colour.....If you don't have a "suitable for vegetarians" declaration on the packet, you HAVE to check with the manufacturer. Ingredients used during processing and that only leave trace quantities in the final product are exempt from ingredients list.

I don't see why someone says they should advertise it or "its a trick". Not true, its our choice to be veggies and so down to us to ensure we eat veggie food.
