Default How do you change the file type of a video downloaded from the net? From an AVI to

MPEG? I've downloaded some films off of the internet but they won't play on my computer. Their file type is AVI (i'm not too up on all this technology jargon lol) but i don't think the AVI is compatible with my computer which is why it won't play. I think it has to be an MPEG. Is there anything i can do to change the video from an AVI to an MPEG? Please help! If there is anything i can do and if it's not too much trouble, please break it down in easy to understand language for the simpletons in this world like me
Cheers!

Avi will run on any computer - there isn't any computer now that won't play an avi file. The problem is you may need a codec.

First, find a program known as "G-Spot". It's pretty cut and dried, you may not even need to install it, just download and run it. Use that program to "open" the offending file. G-Spot will tell you what codec you need and what you've got. (It's not really important that you understand the concept of a codec - just that you may need different ones to run different files.)

Once you know what codec you need, simply go to a reputable site like download.com and get that codec. Install, and you should be able to run that file.

Your computer will have no problems with avi files, try installing Klite Codecs, its an interactive program...download...job done...now try your video.

Download a software called Media Coder. It converts almost anything to anything. I found it very useful. Here is the link:
