Most professional researchers are trained; ie: formal education. See if a local community college offers classes in research, or better yet, a degree. Once you have some credibility (aka, a piece of paper), it will be much easier to be hired for research.
If you feel entrepreneurial, you could start a research firm and get clients.
Most people don't get to choose what they research, they are doing it as a service for money.. so if your passion for research only includes the things you are passionate about, you may find that you do not like it after all.
