Try anything that you have a interest in. Its a really good way of meeting people. Who knows you might make new friends. I joined a walking club, it was great for a small fee you go to the country see beautiful scenery and meet nice people. Good luck let me know how you get on.

If you enjoy puzzles, you may enjoy building a boat. When my grandfather took early retirement, he bought this boat kit. It was a tugboat, about 3 feet long with a remote control engine. All the pieces had to cut out of premarked wood, sanded, painted, and assembled. The motor had to be assembled too, but he had the hobby shop do that part. He would work on it on days when the weather was bad, (he enjoyed being active and taking walks) and couldn't go outside. It took him most of the winter, but it was beautiful. I was so proud of him.
You can also get planes, and other things, but he found it to be fun.

Well if you are single you could start dating - not a silly idea because lots of people in the 50 plus age group get dates.
You could take up some sort of sport, charity work, cycling, jogging.
There are of course things like knitting, crocheting, dress making, you could also go to an adult college and learn another language or something like that. The colleges offer various studies these days you can learn electronics, cooking, flower arrangement, PC engineering, etc etc. It basically depends on what you are interested in.

There are a lot of historical re- enactment societies around - these all appear to to have the elements of drama and challenging the great out doors-- many ( I understand) take on detective work re history (puzzles) .
