Lost admin password in windows XP Pro. Help!?

I promised my friend I would sort out her computer, which as it turns out had a simple hardware fault that was nice and easy to sort. The real problem is that it was out of action so long that she no longer remembers the password, or for that matter, the username. She thinks she logged in as "Administrator" but can't be sure. I have tried starting the computer is safe mode but I still can't log in to the admin account.

The computer is an ex-work machine and I believe it still had some of it's system regulations and whatnot on it, it certainly gives one of those "don't misuse the computer systems, we're all being watched here" messages that are common on workplace PCs.

So, to summarise- ex-office PC running windows XP pro, I think the only account is the Admin account which is password protected but the password has been forgotten. Have tried starting in safe mode to no avail (am I doing something wrong here?). There is no windows CD with it so a reinstall, while an option, is not an attractive one. Can someone help me?
