Does "graphics" work with Windows Vista?

Almost all the laptop dealers (Ok, I went to two shops in Pune, withing my reach) I have gone to in India, have told me that “graphics” software does not work with Windows vista?!
I visited the Adobe, Corel, and 3D max (autodesk) official sites and every one of their system requirements, accepts vista, except for Maya, which says only on a 32-bit Vista business.
I want to get a Vista Ulitmate operating system on my laptop, what is the difference between a Vista business (I read on wiki, it is comparable to Microsoft XP professional), and Vista Ultimate (comparable to both Vista Home premium and Vista Enterprise put together), I always assumed it was “higher” than business.
Also can anyone confirm that Graphics doesn’t work on Vista?
Why does 3D max work on Vista business and not on the others?
