How do I make my desktop icons background transparent in Windows XP?

It's been annoying me for a while now and the conventional method isn't working (use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop). Any other methods would be very welcome.

But no, there is no built-in/automatic way to do it in XP.

Same exact thing happened to me. This is what you do.

this is assuming the drop shadows under icon thing is checked. (for that is half the answer, but you said you've done that.)

right-click on your desktop, go to properties, desktop tab, customize desktop, web tab, and then make sure everything in the list is UNCHECKED.

that should do it.
