My Computer keeps freezing after start up on Windows XP?

My computer freezes up everytime I try to open up anything on my desktop. I already checked for any viruses, I have cleaned my computer out and I have no spyware. I have also cut down the amount of programs that load up when the computer starts up, but as soon as I go to open iTunes, for example, it freezes. But I can still move the mouse. Can anyone help?
