Default Windows XP PC won't start up?

My PC won't start up. It shows the computer manufacturer (Packard Bell) screen and then a screen saying "Press shift F10 to configure" and something about a realtek boot up. It then freezes on a blank screen when it would normally display the windows xp screen with the bar going across, but this does not happen. The day before I did a windows update that froze whilst finalising and I had to exit it, and I was thinking if this might have had something to do with it. When I next turned on the PC a blue windows XP screen saying something about configuring appeared. This appeared to freeze so I restarted the PC and then the problems stated above started. I have tried pressing F8 to get to the windows screen but it won't work and I can't put the windows XP CD in as I wasn't given one with my PC, it was already installed. I have also tried unplugging the PC and have restarted it loads of times. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong because I don't know what else to try.

Thanks

on startup press F2 or delete button this will take you into bios setting press the load default buttun. this will set your pc to default configuration for your motherboard. you may also have a dead motherboard battery(this is used to save mainboard bios setting when you switch of your pc) try replacing it. if the problem continues start your pc in safe mode and use system restore to restore your pc to a time before you installed the update that may be causing the problem..
