I'm fairly new to the world of computers but I'm quite taken with Linux. I have installed Mandriva on a laptop but when I plug a memory stick into the USB port, even though I get a notification it's there, I don't know how to access it. Can anyone out there help me please?
argh. it's probably running KDE. if so, i have no idea. but if you're running GNOME, then it's under "places" in the menu.
I run Ubuntu. its package manager is just better, there's more option for programs under it, and everything "just works". i've only had a few minor problems, but they're the same problems i have under Windows so it's not a big deal.
When you plug in the drive you get a notification. It will have the device name which you can use to do a "mount" something like:
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb-drive
usb-drive is a folder that you already set up in the mnt folder but if you hack fstab you can get it to mount automatically.
