These small computers are not really a 100% substitute for a full-size pc. If you are just looking to browse the web on the move or create documents then it will be fine. But if you are expecting it to be an equal substitute for what a full-size pc can do, then you will be dissapointed.
And Linux is OK once you get used to it but it can sometimes be hard to find drivers/software for it. One of the major things you can get as substitute software is OpenOffice which does pretty much all the things Microsoft Office does.
It would be possible to install XP but only after spending some money on a RAM upgrade. But even with the added RAM, it will not be able to run XP at a good speed. They are not really built for amazing performance.
Basically, if you want it for on the move (creating documents/browsing the web) then it would be fine. But if you are looking for a substitute for a full size pc, then this will probably not meet your expectations.
