It's meant for, well, nerds really.

I have Arch Linux and use it as my secondary/primary OS.

If you install WINE then you can run Window's .exe's and installers and it'll run most games with ease by the way.

Well hang onto your XP there. The funeral march for XP has already started. MS learned from Apple. When a software maker goes to upgrade something, make everything 3rd-party add-on incompatiable.

Get used to DRM. Say hello to Vista! If I was a software company, I'd sue the pants off MS for allowing all this piracy.

Not to mention, the US Federals asked for and received a backdoor to anything Microsoft.

Read the fine-print on your EULA next time you click the "I accept" button on a Microsoft install. MS will LICENSE you to use THEIR product. You don't own XP. MS can discountiue any of THEIR products at ANY time WITHOUT further notice.

Those are just a few of my favorite things.

same reason there are mac / nvidia / vista / xp / quadcore fanboys on here.

Yeh personally I think linux is more trouble than its worth for a home pc, but I have kids and am a gamer so obviously was never going to get a long run on any of my machines.

I reckon once they get better compatability through wine and get it set up so that noobs dont have to use the terminal it will be a lot more popular (and rightly so)

at this stage its still a geek's os
