Linux Os Help...! Which One Do I Chose?!?

Can anyone suggest a Linux version that's easy to use, got slick and smooth designs and is stable - i want to try it out cause i've never used it before, so perhaps a user friendly edition... if possible could you find the link straight to the download - I'm really eager to get it underway! =)

Ubuntu 8.04.1 Hardy Heron, it is probably one of the most user friendly editions, and it has a cool layout/design and is stable.
