Problems booting with Linux: Grub Error 22?

I have an ancient XP laptop, recently I installed OpenSus Linux into a partition via my External DVD Drive (my internal DVD stopped working a long time ago)
After looking at Wiki Answers and manually removing the partition as advised, it displays an error : GRUB ERROR 22
Does anyone know of a way to boot into XP via an external DVD bearing in mind that the internal one is no longer responding.
