That's mostly because they want to be compatible with other companies. Those company's also use Windows because they want to be compatible. Nobody dares taking the first step to switch to Linux, being afraid they become incompatible. So they all stick with the lousy operating system that's called Windows.

Because it is too difficult to change over.
If it were easy, we would all be using Macs (which, by the way, have a Unix operating system).
Big Bad Bill has business all stitched up I'm afraid.

Its a good operating system, however it requires alot of tinkering, and alot of buisness software doesnt work on it.

Also, its a hobbyist operating system, always has been and always will be. It will never be common place because of its very nature.

However O/S's like Unix have been fairly popular in high end computing for large companies. Windows is the desktop operating system, and it will take alot to dislodge it.

My university uses Linux. We have linux workstations at the lab and Open Office and Gimp. It is fully compatible with my windows laptop. We use all office machines correctly and no problems. They switched to Linux in 2006.
Actually, many companies use linux for their servers! Sometimes, they use both linux and windows. I don't think it is a finantial problem... Decision-making in companies is so complex... It does not simply depend on a "let's use linux". People should decide together what they need and why and who can maintain the thing... That's all

Hi, linux may not be used by employees maybe cause of applications required such as Microsoft Office etc, but most companies have Unix servers.
