Default Some questions about Law School?

Im just wondering what's the typical timetable for law school?

What are the holidays?

Does a day at law school last 9-5pm, or what are the typical hours?

Does a law school student have to do placements?

What is the work-load like, is a law course very time consuming?

It's particularly what goes on in the first and second year that I would like to know about.

Thanks

1. Holidays: you get all the holidays that a traditional undergrad university has off. Between fall and spring semesters you get a 3 week christmas break for example.

2. Not 9-5 in class but with study time much longer days than that. I take night classes and have 12 credits and usually spend from 9-5 reading for class that night and working on my outlines and then go to class from 5:30-9. I like to take it easy on the weekends, so if you did more work on the weekends you would probably not have to do this during the week.

3. Placements: I am not sure what you mean by this question.

4. Courses are very time consuming. You read anywhere from 40-90 pages per class each week. Of course it is not the lightest reading either and requires briefing many cases and reading a great deal of complex material. On any given substantive course, such as contracts, I typically spend about 6-10 hours a week reading for it and then I go to class 2X a week for 1:15. Then you have to keep up on your outlines which for one class I typically take out 2-4 hours to reveiw the material from the past week and update my outlines.

5. I can only speak to what goes on in the 1st year, because I am just finishing up my first year. During this year you have to take a class that is titled something like research and writing. This class is extra time consuming because they make you do a lot of work for little credit. Other than that I would just tell you that your first year grades are THE MOST IMPORTANT because you start trying to get jobs before the 2nd year begins, its a lot of pressure especially because our profs have a strict curve they must follow and only 25% A, 30%B, 40% C, and 5% D-F. This curve means that only the top students can get the good grades, as you can see the majority of students get C's.

Finally before classes begin all of the profs post a reading assignment for the first class.

Hope this info helps you out, its a lot of things I didn't know coming into law schoo.
