Default Should there be a worldwide law limiting child birth to one per family?

I often wonder would we all be in the trouble we are in now if people stopped breeding like rabbits, we are struggling to feed an ever growing population of people and as food prices soar millions starve and suffer, and then I say to my self how can these people keep breeding so much not knowing when their own next meal is coming!

Resources are stretched to the limit so what do people do, they breed I mean what is the point when their are so many children out there without parents already scratching a living from landfill sites, eating endangered wildlife destroying our world by turning beautiful forests into ugly slums.

If I was poor I would not even think about having a child its common sense no one deserves to be born in a world of poverty and my heart goes out to them all.

I know it sounds drastic but one child per family law would seem a small price to pay if you consider the alternative that's why I would support such a law desperate times call for desperate measures!

China already practise this rule due to its massive population
its helping but not to put to fine a point on it ,the continents of Africa Asia and America all need to keep it in their pants or have a two strike and snip policy, and the woman the same, eggs can be frozen to help cover unforeseen tragedy's,
but will it happen ? me thinks you'll have more chance of hitting the moon with a snowball, we will bred ourselves into oblivion long after I'm gone I hope,

there is no denying that over population is the greatest threat to the Earths resources, however how you get this message across I don't know, certainly the more advanced cultures should cease giving out child benefits(UK) after the first child, it would save us a fortune and make people realise that the children they have are their responsibility and not the states

No, they should limit the amount of kids you get welfare for so people will stop being stupid not worrying about how many kids they have because they kow the gov't will take care of their expenses.
It would certainly be a motive to keep people from being so irresponsible.

Yes. There are currently 3 million malnourished people in the world according to Pimental and Wilson. And for the last 20 years basic world foods have been on the decline. The world can only support a human population of a certain size. We are putting a massive strain on our resources.

How would you enforce it? Murder any child born after one? Sterilize the parents after one? If you sterilize them, what if the child dies at age 1 or 2? Yes, China and India and some other countries are overpopulated, but there are underpopulated Countires as well.

No, better birth control.

Let's not blame it all on breeding. How about suburban sprawl, using up all of our farmland and woodlands to built million dollar homes? What about polluting the earth? Corporations that rape countries of their natural resources?

Maybe, instead of a dumb law about one child, we should attempt to change the paradigm of society. It certainly isn't working the way it is now.

I do wonder how much inteference in their personal lives individuals will tolerate before they realise that it's global capitalism which is responsible for these "desperate times" and that much more modest measures than regulating childbirth are required i.e. we need radical intervention in the economy to ensure that everyone has housing and food as a matter of right. Everything else (iPods, widescreen TVs, washing machines and electrical tin-openers) is secondary.
