Can I appeal against UK traffic offence if the law was applied inconsistently?

I turned into a street that had been *temporarily* made one way, and got a ticket, but while I was being given the ticket, a number of other drivers did the same thing and the police just let them carry on. Can I appeal on the grounds that the law was applied inconsistently and I was 'singled out' unfairly?
