UK law - subpoena IP address ?? help please ?

Someone is trying to hack and use some of my online accounts and I want to find out who it is.

I emailed the help section of one of the sites and they said they will only give me the IP address of the person doing it, when I give them a 'signed and dated subpoena'

Okay first of all why can't they hand the info over? If it's me, I'm not going to be bothered by recieving my own information, and if it's not me, then it is someone else pretending to be me, so why are they being protected?

Anyway my question is, I don't even know what a subpoena is. Is this really necessary? I only want the IP address to find out what country they are in (to see if it's someone I know)

If I get a subpoena is that a court thing?
Are subpoenas private or will it turn up in future if someone investigated me? I don't want my email address and online accounts being on file with the courts etc.

I am only looking for their IP address just now, not their name. I know that I need to contact their ISP for information. That's not what i'm asking.
I'm asking how I can get the actual IP address from the company. I mean, this is standard on most websites, when you make a password request it will usually send you an email with the password, telling you what IP address made the request.

I can't close the accounts because that won't stop them, and 1 is my email address which I need.

I am asking YA what a subpoena is, not the company, they barely answer emails as it is. I tried to find out on my own but all the info I find is too technical, or talking about subpoenas for witnesses, or US law info.
actually it's not very likely they are using a proxy. I'm not stupid and they probably are. I know they exist, and so do most people, but not many people know how to, or go to the bother to use them unless the are somewhat sophisticated or computer savvy.
I figure it's someone I know just trying their luck. That's why I only want the IP. To see if it's in my town/country, or Iran etc.

I don't know why you're trying to lecture me about protecting my internet. It is secure, and so are my passwords, and I have changed them even though they were already secure. You don't make any sense, don't be pissed because I am not happy with your answer.
You have missed basic information which I've already wrote out about 3 times which you claim to have read.

I think you need to pay more attention. I already covered the police part and changing my accounts won't help because 1- some of them CAN'T be changed, and 2- changing the 'numbers' won't stop the person. I KNOW it's not a big deal (yet)
also 'red' maybe you should stop editing your bad information out so people can no longer see what i'm replying to.
Also considering you edited it or should I say, completely DELETED EVERY SINGLE WORD of your post and changed it to something else, AFTER you were given a THUMBS UP.

Subpoena translates to "under punishment" in Latin. It is an order from a court for a person to appear at a trial under punishment for failure to appear. If the person given a subpoena does not appear, some courts have the discretion to find the person in contempt of court and either order the person’s arrest or issue fines accordingly.

The term subpoena is primarily used in US courts. The preferred term in the UK is now Witness Summons, at least in civil trials. In either country, the subpoena is usually written by the court clerk after he or she has been given a list of witnesses for a trial. well i would suggest closing the accounts first of all. the reason they cant give you more information then that is cuz they probably dont know who it is to begin with, they only know someone by their ip address, the address u use to access the interenet. theres no way this company knows someone by name and location. why dont you ask them what a subpoena is? they wont be on file with the courts because its not you. your not lying about anything are you? then if not, you shouldnt have anything to worry about.

i just answered your other Q.. YOU CANT GET ANY INFO OUT OF A COMPANY WITH OUT A COURT ORDER or a police order whether its a name or an IP address or ANYTHING. contact the police if you want it that bad.

also, IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT THE IP ADDRESS IS, they could be using a proxy and the IP could say they were in Iran and it could REALLY BE YOUR NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOUR. if someone is going to hack into your accounts you can bet your ass they wont be using THEIR OWN IP to do it, unless they are really stupid. the information you are after is most likely USELESS. stop troubling yourself about it and change account numbers etc and protect your internet connection in the future.
