I read somewhere that plastics can be mixed to create a new product, I see no reason to manufacture products that ends in the landfill

Yes but I'm not sure there are enough businesses that are into using the recycled material or places that take care of distributing the recycling collections. That would take a while to set up before it could become law but I think it will happen eventually.

It shouldn't be law, that would be stupid. Unless you want the kind of fascist state that the New Labour mob are trying to impose.

If you want people to recycle more , then you just need to educate them. I don't want to see council officials going around punishing the elderly and sick because they make mistakes. What about small children? Are you going to accuse them of being criminals. Councils insist on using special containers. These containers get stolen where I live.

As an environmentalist I find it disgusting to see long queues of people in cars with their engines running, waiting to drop of a few bottles at a bottle bank.

At present there isn't sufficient recycling capacity do deal with the waste that is being collected for recycling. If you want people to co-operate then local authorities need to demonstrate that we are not all wasting our time.

After 5 years of collecting plastics, my local council has finally decided to let us know which plastics they actually use. Half the containers which I have cleaned and separated for them, they never wanted. For the record I did ring, mail, email and check their website to try and find out.

I bet most of the people calling for such laws, buy cheap disposable clothing, made by children working in third world sweatshops. Then there is good food wasted. How much do you throw away each week?

Absolutely! It should be. It makes sense economically by reusing materials so you don't have to spend money to create from raw product ie;(oil for plastics, mine metals such as gold, copper etc.and sand for glass.

All food stuffs should be made from same type of plastic and be recycled because we have to throw out certain plastics because recyclers don't want it.

It needs to start at the manufacturer that their goods and packaging is abled to be recycled. So if manufacturers and recyclers become mandated then recycling should become easier.

I notice some recyclers change what they are accepting because they simply can't make money from certain items. Metals are a good example. It was difficult to get rid of an old washing machine or ref. and now I see ads that people will pick it up for free just to get the scrap metal from it.LOL

Anyway that's why recycling gets complicated. Just too uncertain about the types of things, the what and where. A good example of this is a landfill a mile from me doesn't take batteries but one eight miles away will.

how can reclycling be made any simpler? all you do is throw your plastics and glass and paper into organized boxes and wait for the truck to pick it up! if it were any simpler, they would have to come into our homes and get it themselves! but i do think that reclycling should definently be made a law. we have all these things that we can reuse, but we never do! like those shopping bags that you are supposed to take to the store. people have them, but do they use them? most likely not. i always hear people talking about "going green", but they never take the necessary steps to actually become "Green!" if this were a law, then the enviroment would become cleaner, and better.

Recycling is not the answer and could perpetuate the problem since the term "recycle" has positive connotations. Most people would feel good about tossing 20 individual, single use plastic water bottles into the recycling bin. The best way is to reduce and resuse.

It should not be a law.

Yes it should be the law. If people don't recyle make them pay a fine. We don't have a bin for recyling though they should be given out.

My friend went to Germany and if you take back your rubbish back to the place you bought iit from you get so much money back from what you paid for it.

No it should not be a law. Not all cities have the program; they don't have the manpower nor space for it.

Yes, we should all make an effort to stop environmental destruction. Any effort to make it simpler would always be welcome.
