study another language while reading Law...

Do you think it will help in terms of employment in a London city firm if I learnt a foreign language with the Open Uni while studying Law? I am to start my 2nd yr at Sheffield Hallam and I know it is not the most reputable of uni's so how hard will it be for me, a female, ethnic minority and grade high 2:1 (first yr result) student to get a training contract in a top law firm?...All advice appretiated, thanks

I think a second language is an automatic plus, regardless of degree or university.
I would say definitely go for it - it will give you that edge when it comes to applying, there are so many jobs that would rather have someone with a second language, and will really help you to get up to the same standard as all the Oxford, Cambridge, UCL etc top law University grads.

Oh and by the way, with regards to your ethnicity, that has nothing to do with a job application - especially to a top law firm, companies have very strict policies regarding equal opportunities, so won't discriminate, same goes for your gender. Keep your grade at a 2:1, they say that in law if you get anything under a 2:1 then there's pretty much nothing you can do (nothing of great importance anyway) in the law field.
