Default TUPE law / redundancy, can you help?

i work for the CO-OPERATIVE in manchester and have done for 20 years, however they have just sold the division i work in to NORWICH UNION, they say that they will not make me redundant as they can offer me employment at one of their offices, in......PERTH, SCOTLAND! 264miles away and 4 hours each way. i'm not very firmiliar with TUPE law but is there a restriction to how far they can expect you to travel to justify not paying a redundancy package? if you can help please do so and please let me know your source of info (have you been a victin of this loophole? are you a member of the legal system?) grateful of anything really

I have some experience in being offered alternative employment some distance from the orginal place of work.It was some time ago and the rules might have changed but top of the head 264 miles seems totally out of order and my personal view is it's so unreasonable that it does not constitute a reasonable offer of alternative employment.

Your best bet is see what the Union say.If you're not in it join it

they are taking the p1ss they can offer you another job but with in reason asking you to travel 264 miles is not with in reason.
there is no way they can refuse to make you redundant by saying this is a reasonable re-location its not its in a different country.
go back to them and ask them what sort of re-settlement package are you getting will they give you a lump sum will they pay half of any house you buy will they put you up in a BB all week then fly you back home for the weekend.
they are making you this offer in the hope you will quit so they don't have to pay your redundancy, don't let them trick you out of it tell them that this job offer is a joke.
