Learning JavaScript a few question's from a newcommer?

I'm still deciding whether to go into JavaScript programming or web design but my mind's allway's toward's programming, mainly because there isnt many thing's to learn,because with web design there's a lot and it confuses me.but my main question's are,is it easy to get the hang of javascript? and how long roughly would it be until i'm very good at writing programmes and stuff if i spent at least 2 hour's a day reading book's? as i'm buying one this week which is the 5th edition of javascript from O'Reilly.com, i want nothing more than to be a pro javascript programmer ,i shalnt ask how long it will take, but i know it will be a few year's.thank's for your time and answer's.
