Java is mostly for internet use, certain website and onlien programs use it and you need Java in order for the to show up and work properly. If it were me I would leave it, it doesn't take up that much room. I have 100GB on my computer and still have plenty of room, even with Java.
Lots of programs need Java to be able to run.
If you uninstall it you may well find (OK - you will definitely find) that some things you were able to use previously would no longer work.
if you don't need it bin it, if you do well have a look at what you don't need ,ie programmes you don't use ( photos music ) they all take up space hope that helps
