Yahoo and Java problems, any ideas?

I like playing the LITERATI game on YAHOO games. I am using the latest version of I.E. and the latest version of JAVA. I can get into the games and play fine, except when I want to switch to a different room, the whole system fails. My browser becomes unresponsive and I have to do the ALT--CTRL--DEL action. Sometimes (although not always) I will get and error message stating that I have a JAVA null pointer exception error (whatever that is), I have checked on the JAVA website but have not found anything.

Like I said I can play the LITERATI game, but once I am in a room I have to stay there, it is only when closing that room down that I get the problem.

So, first, does anyone know how I can solve the problem?

And second, Has anyone else had this problem?
