Help on java software, Please very urgent.?

I am a java 2 platform 1.5.2 programmer. I use notepad, and now I here that notepad is old fashioned stuff and that there are java software i can use for my programming which has a very condusive enviroment. Any idea on were i can download these softwares from. (websites included)
