java standard edition problems?

i have java standard edition installed on my pc ,but it keeps telling me there's an error ,i have tried installing other javas but i wont let me saying my installation package does not support it? any ideas how to get around this
im running xp pro

I dont know if this will help, but i had problems with Java. I uninstalled all my java applications, installed firefox, and then installed java. hope that will work xxx
