Hi Jacko, when it comes down to sports footwear, then it is up to personal choice.
Some brands tend to be narrower in the foot width, so if you have a broad foot, then they are not really a good idea.
With others, the pricing can be inhibiting, and just because they are good for someone else does not mean they will be for you.
What I tend to go for is a pair that give support in the right places, feel comfortable, and are in a price range you can afford.
When going to try on new boots at a shop, wear the same on the foot as you would for a match. If you wear 2 pairs of socks, ankle guards or anything else, then you need them on for the trying on of the boot as, without them the boot may feel great, but with them tight and uncomfortable.
Also if you lace up your boots in a certain way, set them up like that for try on. Everything needs to be as close to how you set up for a match, or training session.
Ideally, if you can, go for leather over plastic, as being a natural material, it has a little more give, and doesn't tend to rub or chafe causing blisters so easily.
Final thought, the manufacturer doesn't matter as long as they can do the job they are designed for.
