Default Do you think football is on a course to self destruction ?

Some may say it's already got there, but with players and agents wanting more & more money.......... where will it all end? Supporters are going to get pi*ed off and eventually it will be purely for rich people. Somethings got to give. Opinions please.

Even the lower division gate prices and season
ticket holders are feeling the pinch because guys
just cannot afford it in the present economic situation.
The weekly wages footballer receive is just to much
for supporters to stomach and crowds will drift away
and watch local armature teams for nothing.

I have got to agree with you there. That's a very good question. I think football is now evolving around money and the amount of salary a club needs to pay for a player to stay is shocking. I have read somewhere that footballers had to work after football to earn a living. Whereas nowadays, footballers simply have to play the game. I am not saying it is easy, but I hope you see a difference there.

Then, there is the amount of money a club pays to get a player. I find them really inflated and again petrifying because they are not really what the player is worth.

From the reasons I mentioned, the prices of tickets to watch a football match has increased to compensate the wages the clubs need to pay to their players. Therefore, I hope that some sort of organisation can do something about this.

caps wages to £40,000 a month
caps transfers to £1,000,000 max

the problem with football is it is meant to be the working mans game and when players start acting like something else, they are losing there working class roots and really being arrogent to the people who are keeping them in a job.

Zidane, Beckham, Lampard, Ronaldino when they do adverts saying this country only needs £1 a month, I think you make that a minute, you greedy sods, give them 2 years worth of your wages - but then again it must be hard to live when you only have £14 milllion left :P

If the credit crunch/stagflation/possible recession goes on for some time then the income will dry up and many of the clubs working on unsustainable budgets based on borrowing and Sky money will certainly be completely [expletive deleted].
