Default Why do English people care so much about how the national football team does,

since it doesn't affect them? personally and a celebration wouldn't be that different as they get wrecked every Friday and Saturday night anyway?

Why do people care about the Olympics when it doesn't effect them who win? Why do people care at all when their sport's team win?

It's all about belonging to a team, even if you just support them. National pride, nothing like it!

Plus football means more depending what country your in, and it's very popular in England.

No different than in those countries where soccer rules. In America I am amazed when I see pictures of fans rioting after a soccer match, have even seen cases where people have died. I believe it is good to loyally follow and support your team of choice but I always remember it is Just a game. The world will never end do to the result of a game. Something else to keep in mind. For many in the World the only release from the day to day misery they experience is sports. Sadly it gives many a reason to look to the future (even the next weekend) and anticipate the out come of the contest. Sad but true.

I hate football as a rule but it is the English national sport. They expect them to do well. There is a lot of money floating around that generally comes from the fans & they, rightfully so , expect a payback in good performances.

EDit:- Mummy Fi.....Thats quite astute. Yea I would tend to agree with you. Racist springs to mind.

It is all about a sense of pride in your country succeding at something especially something they created.

What you're saying is that people should have nothing to look forward to, get excited over and just be boring like the rest of Europe?

England & Proud
