My daughter started Year 7 last week and got her first maths homework: abc=216 and...
...a + b + c =19.? Find the values of a, b and c.
She worked it out by trial and error, which took her a good ten minutes. Is there a different way of solving this (apart from complicated equations, as this is only year 7)?
My son has just started year 7 too. I don't have a hope in hell of understanding some of his homework...this is more of a learning curve for me than it is him!
Sure, it's pretty easy, but considering the fact that your daughter is in Year 7, your only working method would be trial and error.
I got it at the second try.
I tried
10 + 5 + 4 = 19, but...
10 x 5 x 4 = 200.
Hence, what you must do is variate the numbers, like for example, remove one from 10 and add it to 5.
9 + 6 + 4 = 19, and...
9 x 6 x 4 = 216.
