Going to hire for holiday, fair amount of mileage. Hire companies are not constant on their opinions of which is more spacious for five full size, adults.

E-Class is the bigger car ergo should be more comfortable. You didn't say where you were going but I'd plump for a Renault Espace or similar if available, or perhaps a Citroen C6 which is big, comfy and has a magic carpet ride.
