Default Reversing a 40 trailer: I have my LGV C+E (19 years) and only just going to

make use of it as I am changing? career I had a refresher course and did ok it all came back to me BUT I am still not 100% confident and feel I should not go for a job until I'm fully confident ie having back into a tight loading bay. my instructor said I am an instinctive driver but going for a new LGV job is proving to be harder for me than i thought I have seen many seasoned drivers make a hash of it so I should not really worry. I know its a case of experience. it will get very expensive to keep on practising so any LGV drivers looking at this any tips please ..only serious ones please. martin

Practice, practice, practice. It's the only way. I drive 7.5 tonners and remember being terribly nervous at first about reversing that on just two mirrors. But now it's sooooo easy!

OK, trailers can have a mind of their own, especially when you're trying to reverse them. My instructor drummed into me, hardly turn the steering wheel at all, trickle backwards without touching the accelerator and as soon as the trailer starts to go off line, put on a touch of opposite lock.

Ideally, see if you can persuade one of the LGV driving schools to let you have two hours use of one of their artic rigs, then take it to a quiet or dis-used industrial complex and practice.
